The wrist contains several tendons, and when one or more of them become inflamed, wrist tendonitis may result. Normally, only one tendon is affected, but in rare cases, it may involve more than one. Wrist tendonitis is sometimes referred to as De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.
Wrist tendonitis tends to be a repetitive motion injury since continuous movements of the hand and wrist can easily cause tendons to become irritated. It is a common condition among people who regularly spend a great deal of time typing, but factory workers and athletes may be susceptible to it as well.

Discomfort in the wrist is usually the first symptom people with wrist tendonitis notice. In the beginning stages of wrist tendonitis, this may be felt only when performing certain motions. As time goes on, pain intensifies and may make it difficult for you to flex or bend your wrist. Redness, tenderness, and swelling may also be present.
Wrist tendonitis surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Dr. Humphrey will make an incision in your wrist so that the affected tendon may be “released” or cut from its sheath. This provides relief from stiffness and increases your range of motion. Once the appropriate adjustments have been made, your outer skin will be sewn shut and covered with a bandage to promote healing.

Surgery for Tendonitis is usually covered by insurance. For self-pay patients, providing you with the cost is not possible until after a treatment plan has been established. For this reason, your cost will only be discussed after your examination. Should surgery be necessary, there is a variety of payment options available, including the following:
- Personal check
- Major credit card (Visa, American Express, MasterCard, Discover)
